Orpington Library is due to open on May 16

An opening date for the new Orpington library has been set for May 16.

The existing library in The Priory will close on April 30 and the new £1.5million building in The Walnuts will open two weeks later.

Recreation councillor Julian Bennington said: “The opening for the new library is in sight. Work has gone ahead on budget for this 21st century facility for Orpington residents in the heart of the town centre.”

The new building will be laid out over two floors, with street level access, meeting areas and plenty of reading space.

A first stage application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for an extension to Bromley Museum at The Priory in Orpington has been approved by the council.

The bid will include plans for heritage repairs to the Grade II* listed building, visitor facilities, improvement of exhibition spaces and learning facilities available at the site.

Please note the revised opening and closing dates for the respective libraries from details in this week’s Bromley Times newspaper.
