A police officer was jailed yesterday for 21 months after he was seen kissing and fondling a 13-year-old girl in Orpington.

Andrew Gouge, 34, of Bromley, pleaded guilty to meeting a child following grooming and sexual activity with a child at Woolwich Crown Court on September 2.

He met his victim, aged 13 at the time, via an internet chatroom. The pair exchanged contact details and met on a number of occasions, usually in public parks, where they would kiss.

Following his arrest on April 24, Gouge was taken to Lewisham police station and charged.

Det Ch Insp Pete Thomas said: “Andrew Gouge has shown himself to be someone who has targeted, groomed and exploited a vulnerable young child for his own sexual needs.

“His conduct has caused significant harm and the investigation highlights the need to remain vigilent to the risks posed by social media and the internet in order to safeguard children.”

He will also be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and a Restraining Order - as well as being subject to a full misconduct hearing.
