Bromley police have launched a ‘huge crackdown’ on burglary this week after an increase in the number of break-ins across the borough.

A dedicated squad of officers will be working with forensic and safer neighbourhood teams to investigate burglaries, execute warrants and monitor the activities of known burglars.

Police appealed for extra help from the community to report any suspicious behaviour.

They are keen to identify premises where stolen property is being taken to, as well as identifying those responsible for committing break-ins.

Deputy Borough Commander Jo Oakley said: “This is one of the most sustained crackdowns against burglary conducted by Bromley police.

“By bringing together borough based knowledge and expertise with the skills of our specialist units we will make a real difference.

“Tackling burglary is a priority in Bromley and we will ensure that those involved in this type of criminal activity will be targeted - from those breaking into homes to those selling stolen goods. I want burglars to be in fear of being caught and incarcerated.

“I would like to appeal for support from the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to us.

“The public can also support this operation and help themselves from becoming a victim of crime by taking some basic prevention measures, such as ensuring that their uPVC doors are correctly secured”.

The campaign will see increased patrols, both covert and overt, with a focus on known burglars and those with previous convictions.

Anyone with any information can call the burglary squad on 0208 284 8859 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
