Crews were called just before 12.40am on Monday

Firefighters rescued a Sydenham man from his burning flat on Monday morning, as an investigation into the blaze gets underway.

Two fire engines were called to the second floor apartment in Lawrie Park Gardens at 12.38am, where they pulled the resident from the flames.

He was then treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service paramedics.

A 10-strong crew of firefighters from Beckenham and Forest Hill stations battled the flames, which gutted the apartment’s kitchen, until just before 1.30am.

Met Police confirmed the fire is not being treated as suspicious as London Fire Brigade looks into the cause of the blaze.
