Cray Wanderers’ final game in the Isthmian League Premier ended in an away defeat against an Enfield Town side who needed to win to secure safety from relegation.

The visitors began the game very much on the front foot and Jamie Richards had an effort cleared off the line.

It was Wanderers against the run of play who took the lead in the tenth minute when Paul Vines tucked home a fine finish from Alex Stavrinou’s pass.

Cesc Fakino’s lob was pushed onto the crossbar and over by Enfield keeper, James Chalk who then left the field through injury.

Corey Whitely missed a great chance to level for Enfield when he dragged his shot wide but within a minute it was 1-1 when Jordan Lockie hit a fine shot into the top left corner from a tight angle.

Enfield showed a lot more urgency in the second period but the game was becoming bogged down when Enfield scored their winner on 74 minutes when Ryan Doyle hit a decent strike through a crowd of players just inside the box.

In the last minute of the game Max Fitzgerald was sent off for a second bookable offence.
