A TEENAGER appeared in court accused of manslaughter after the driver of a car she was a passenger in died when it crashed in to a tree.

The girl, 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was committed at Bromley Magistrates Court to stand trial at the Old Bailey on December 5.

She was the front seat passenger in the car which was estimated to be travelling at a speed of around 60mph.

It is claimed she grabbed the steering wheel of the car, causing it to turn off the road and that this was the cause of driver Lee Waites' death.

Part-time waiter Mr Waite, 21, was killed when his Mini Cooper, carrying seven people, overtook a vehicle, crashed in to a tree then smashed in to a driveway with two parked cars in it in Southborough Lane, Bromley, on February 10 this year.

Emergency services battled in vain for an hour- and-a-half to save Mr Waite.
