A couple were attacked after asking a group of youths to be quiet on a train.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident left the 55-year-old man and his wife with facial injuries which needed hospital treatment.

It took place on February 14 just before 9pm on the Charing Cross to Hayes service between Catford Bridge and Eden Park.

The youths then escaped by jumping from the train door and running down the tracks.

Detective Constable Jo Montague, said: “The man politely asked a group of youths to turn their music down. An altercation then occurred whereby both the man and his wife received injuries

“Thankfully incidents like these are very rare but, as always, British Transport Police is treating this incident very seriously.

“This was an attack on a man who had simply asked the group to quieten down. I am urging anyone with any information to get in touch.”
