A CONMAN has been ringing elderly residents claiming to be a police officer and asking them to divulge their bank details.

Bromley police are urging people to be vigilant following the attempted scam, which has so far not resulted in any money being stolen.

The man states that there has been money taken from people's accounts and says he needs to check their details.

A spokesman for Bromley police said: "Never, ever disclose your bank details to anyone cold calling. Banks will never call you asking for personal or account information as they already have these details and neither will the police.

"Should you receive a phone call asking you to disclose any personal or financial details, finish the call immediately.
