The service will move to a nearby WH Smiths

Beckenham Crown Post Office is set to close down in the next few weeks, it was confirmed today (Tuesday).

The service will now move inside the WH Smith Store on High Street, around 0.2 miles away.

Locals had campaigned to keep the existing Rectory Road branch open.

But the general manager at the Post Office’s Crown branch network, Roger Gale, claims the move would protect services for local customers.

Mr Gale said: “WH Smith already operates around 100 post office branches throughout the UK and we have been successfully working with them for nearly ten years.

“They have a proven record of running Post Offices with consistently high levels of customer services.”

The new branch will be able to provide a seven-day-a-week service, with longer hours.

Staff working at Rectory Road are able to transfer their employment to WHSmith.

Rectory Road post office will close on August 17, with the WH Smith branch open from 9am on August 18.
