Train services were delayed this morning after a lorry became wedged under a bridge near Shortlands station.

The incident, in Bromley Road, happened at around 11.30am and caused delays of up to 30 minutes for commuters.

This is the second time in two months that a lorry has been stuck under a rail bridge, with a similar incident occurring in Crofton Road, Orpington in July.

Another HGV wedged itself under the same bridge, in Shortlands, in November last year.

Drivers were also affected by the immobilised HGV today, with some taking to Twitter. Katie Learmouth described “loads of traffic”, while @EllieAgius said: “As if there’s a lorry stuck under the bridge at Shortlands”.
