A man has died after being hit by a train at a commuter station.

Police were called to Chislehurst station at 1.26pm yesterday (Thursday) after a man, thought to be in his forties, was struck by a passing fast train.

A spokesman from Bromley police said that it is thought the victim jumped from platform two as the train approached the station.

The incident led to a complete closure of the line until 6pm, with delays of up to an hour between Orpington and London as buses replaced trains at the height of rush hour.

The British Transport Police is not treating the death as suspicious and is preparing a file for the coroner.
