A DRIVING instructor is to swap his car for healthier transport when he cycles 255 miles from London to Paris.
Steve Hewitt, 31, of Scad's Hill Close, Petts Wood, will join his sister Sally Hewitt, 33, and a team of cyclists to raise cash for the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer. The siblings have already raised more than £8,000 between them.
They were inspired to undertake the continental challenge by Sally's partner, Steve Wright, 41, who has been battling the disease since he was diagnosed in June last year.
Mr Hewitt, who is married to Faye and has a three-year-old son Max, said: "It's going to be really hard work, although I've been training a lot.
"Before I started this, I hadn't been on a bike since I was a child."
The cyclists will set off from the Marble Arch, in Central London, on June 24, on the way to the Arc de Triomphe in the French capital via Dover, Boulogne and the town of Abbeville. They hope to arrive in Paris four days after they set off, on June 28. Steve Hewitt has raised some £2,000 pounds through his fundraising website, while his sister has made £6,000 from supportive friends, family and colleagues.
