Police raided a house in Birchington Close, Orpington, on March 12 last year and found plants growing in the loft, Croydon Crown Court heard on Tuesday.

The couple living there, John Duck, 48 and Jane Valentine, 46, were arrested and both admitted the cultivation of cannabis when they appeared.

An earlier hearing revealed that 50 grams of cocaine of 50 per cent purity with a value of £2,000 was also found at the house.

Duck also admitted possession of the hard drug with intent to supply, and was jailed for two years while Valentine admitted possession and was given 12 months suspended for two years.

Judge John Anderson told the

couple: "It goes without saying that it has a corrosive effect on society generally when people like you make drugs accessible to other people. Nevertheless, it was a limited number to whom the supply was made."

The judge ordered Valentine to carry out 60 hours unpaid work and handed her a six months supervision order.
