Archant

Heat from a cannabis factory caused a flat fire in Bromley High Street last week, damaging a cafe below.

Emergency services were called to a fire at the property at around 2am on Thursday.

While battling the flames, firefighters discovered the flat was being used to grow cannabis. The fire was started when heat from the equipment used to grow the drugs caused a lighting fixture to melt.

The three-storey flat contained more than 225 cannabis plants, with tents and hydroponic equipment found in the bathroom, living room and kitchen.

No arrests have been made to date, though enquiries continue.
