Two Beckenham mums who started a business off the back of a Christmas present idea from one of their 11-year-olds, have gone viral with a demonstration video they posted on Facebook.

Danielle Hewlett-Boyle and Lara Hobbs, who met while working together in Bromley Gap, set up My Locker World, after Ms Hewlett-Boyle’s daughter Leah, decided she wanted an American-style school locker.

Ms Hewlett-Boyle said: “She was really disappointed when she started secondary school and realised school lockers weren’t as big a deal in the UK as they were in America, and so she said she wanted a pink one for Christmas.

“I searched high and low for the kind of locker she wanted but when I didn’t have any luck I brought an industrial one and painted and accessorised it myself - it cost a fortune. But then I realised there was a market for it, and so myself and Lara set up the business in July 2016. We’ve already sold 150.”

Ms Hewlett-Boyle recently decided to take some advice from Richard Branson and ‘put herself on the frontline’ by uploading a video to Facebook demonstrating how to accessorise the lockers.

“Some of the kids who now have lockers have sent up videos of them dressing the lockers up, so I figured I should do one too,” she said. “Most people don’t realise that actually the accessories can be taken back out as they’re all magnetic.”

In just 24 hours the video gained 24,000 views and was shared over 180 times across the country.

Further to their viral success, the pair, who have seven children between them, have had support from Alan Carr, and Sir Tom Jones.

Ms Hewlett-Boyle added: “We’ve had a pop-up stall at the ITV studios four or five times now, and so we’ve met a few celebrities, including Tom Jones, who approved of the lockers.

“Alan Carr also purchased two for his godchildren.”

My Locker World will be displaying the lockers at Bromley Charter Market on Saturday, June 3.

The lockers now have a section in Petts Wood store, Torza.
