A pair of burglars who hospitalised a police officer by hitting her over the head in Orpington have been sentenced.

Ross Eaglestone, 24, of Dartford, was sentenced to 29 months in prison after pleading guilty to burglary and possession of heroin at Croydon Crown Court earlier this month. A charge of common assault was ordered to remain on file.

Riley Scamp, 19, also of Dartford, was given a six month term in a young offender institution after pleading guilty to burglary at the same court.

Cray Valley West safer neighbourhood team were called to St Pauls Wood Hill, in Orpington, on December 6 where they found two suspects inside a house.

As Eaglestone and Scamp attempted to escape a female PC was assaulted. Scamp was detained at the scene while the injured PC gave chase to Eaglestone before he was arrested in a nearby garden.

She was then taken to Princess Royal University Hospital, in Farnborough Common, for treatment to a nasty head injury and concussion.
