SENSELESS thugs battered two swans to death with branches in a public park.

The RSPCA are appealing for help in tracing a group of up to seven youths responsible for the brutal attack, which took place in Kelsey Park, Beckenham between 5 and 5.30pm last Wednesday.

Inspector, Lucy Chillery, said: "Eyewitnesses tell us that a group of young people, aged about 15, chased after a swan and ripped branches off trees to beat it once they had caught it.

"They then chased another, caught it, and again beat it to death. Both attacks were vicious and utterly senseless.

"There was so much vegetation in the area that the birds did not have a chance to take off and once the attackers were between the swans and the water they had no escape.

"We would very much like to hear from anyone who was in the park on Wednesday afternoon and can help us identify members of this group."

Anybody with information can contact the RSPCA cruelty hotline on 0300 1234 999.
