Bromley South station will be step-free before the Olympics according to the chief executive of Network Rail.

It is the 49th busiest railway station in the country with over six million passengers using it each year. Over 400 people have signed a petition lobbying for better access at the station

David Higgins wrote to Bromley and Chislehurst MP Bob Neill stating: “We anticipate that the improvement works will commence in the autumn and that the step-free facilities will be open from late spring next year.”

Mr Neill said: “Local residents have campaigned extremely hard to secure this outcome and it is excellent news that the improvement works are set to begin in the autumn.

“A number of constituents have questioned whether the much-needed step-free access will be installed prior to the Olympic Games. I am certain that, like me, they will welcome having this time-frame being placed on record by Network Rail.”
