Bromley is once again showing its support for the men and women of the Armed forces.
The council’s annual flag raising ceremony earlier this week marked days in the run up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
The annual ceremony, at the Civic Centre, included members of the armed forces, veterans, including Chelsea Pensioners and cadets, MPs, the mayor, the deputy mayor, the leader and deputy leader of the council, councillors and staff.
Council leader Stephen Carr said: “Each year it is with great pride and humility we give thanks for the contribution made to our country by those who serve and who have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
“The event is also an opportunity to join the nation in the run up to Armed Forces Day in showing our support for all those who make up our armed forces community from serving troops to service families, veterans to cadets.”
Cllr Carr added: “It is particularly poignant to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting our country. Their actions allow us to live today in peace and freedom.
“In the run up to Armed Forces Day I would respectfully encourage we all consider pausing briefly as we pass the various war memorials around our borough, in order to pay our own silent tributes to our fallen heroes and their families.”
