The 27 scouts from the 8th West Wickham Group went camping in the Ashclyst Forest and wanted to do something to help the local area whilst on the trip.

Chairwoman of the Sidmouth Plastic Warrirors, Denise Bickley, spoke to the scouts about how she was encouraged to do something about plastic pollution after seeing the amount of rubbish in the sea whilst on holiday.

Erin Harrington, 13, said: “I was surprised how much plastic pollution we found and this must change.”

Scout leader Stuart Haydon said: “The scouts collected plastic bottles, plastic bottle tops, energy drink cans, plastic bags and sweet wrappers.

“I have never seen such enthusiasm from the scouts to make a positive impact on our environment.

“I am very proud of each one of them, and had to actually stop them working so they had time for a swim!”
