Eleven Bromley schools have been given awards for their efforts to improve the health and fitness of their pupils.

Four received silver awards and seven were given gold awards at the mayor’s Healthy Schools London event on Friday, June 24, in recognition of the innovative health projects they have introduced.

The winners of the gold awards were Newstead Wood, Hayes Primary, Midfield Primary, Poverest Primary, Southborough Primary, St Joseph’s RC Primary and Balgowan Primary School.

Silver medals went to Alexandra Junior School, Pickhurst Junior Academy, Perry Hall Primary and St Mark’s Primary.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “To build a healthier future for London we must start with our children and make healthy living a habit, not a chore.

“The pupils and schools here today are doing exactly what I want to see more of: learning about the environment in their lessons, planting fruit and veg in their school gardens to cook in their canteens, and doing their bit to clean up the city’s air by walking to school.

“They are doing a great job and I congratulate each and every one of them. I want to encourage all of London’s schools to follow in their green footsteps and sign up to Healthy Schools London.”
