A trio of Bromley ballerinas have been selected from hundreds of hopefuls to appear in the English Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker.

Darcey Hayes, 13, of Bickley, Tamzin Martin, 14, of West Wickham and Eliza Shotton, 14, of Bromley, were all chosen after summer auditions and will appear at the New Wimbledon Theatre across three nights from November 8.

The young dancers will first work with the English Youth Ballet’s principal dancers at Rutlish School, in Wimbledon, in a 10-day intensive rehearsal.

Joining the cast came as a huge surprise for Darcey, says her mother Michelle.

“She really didn’t expect it,” she said. “We went along for practise more than anything, it was a big surprise.

“It’s lovely to see her on stage dancing because they do all these classes that you never really get to see. She auditioned to perform at Wimbledon because that’s where her dad grew up, so it’ll be nice for us to all go back there.”
