Do you recognise this little wartime evacuee?
A man who came across the photograph of a young boy who had been evacuated to Wiltshire from Bromley during the Second World War is trying to trace him.
Richard Giles attended a family member’s funeral recently, and came across the picture which belonged to his relatives Brandon and Lena Mercer.
The back of the photo reads “Brian Richard Starr, my evacuee during the war. He came from Bromley, Kent. (Lena Mercer).”
Richard, a local and family history enthusiast, said: “I would guess the date to be 1941 or 1942.
“The Mercer family were blacksmiths who lived in the village of Milton Lilbourne, near Pewsey, Wiltshire.
“I guess that if he is still around, Brian might be around 80 now. If he or his surviving family are still in the area it would be good to make contact.
“I am a distant cousin of Brandon Mercer.”
