Labour group submit motion to council

Labour politicians have called on Bromley Council to be more open in its workings.

The council’s Labour group has tabled a motion in response to council cuts, and revelations that the council underspent by more than £11 million in the last financial year.

The motion reads: “This council reaffirms its objectives as being the promotion or improvement of the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of the borough of Bromley.

“This council calls for greater transparency in the budget process, so that all members and the public can more easily identify how much of their money is being spent on services and how much invested in properties and other reserves

“This council also calls on the executive to reaffirm that its primary commitment is to the provision of public services and not to the building up of superfluous reserves and investments.”
