Health issues such as obesity and alcohol misuse will be dealth with by Bromley Council from next Monday.

Following the dissolving of NHS primary care trusts, certain public health services will now be run by the local authority under the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

Key areas that come under the control of the council include health checks, sexual health, obesity and drug and alcohol misuse.

Council officers have already begun working alongside health professionals to intergrate services in areas such as adult social care, children and young people, and environmental issues.

Executive councillor for public health, Graham Arthur, said: “I am very proud that 18 months ago we decided to take a very early approach to shaping how we deliver these important public health services to the people of Bromley.

“We must also remember 40 years ago such public health functions were run by local authorities and for me there is a real sense they are now coming home.”
