Architecture graduates and students are encouraged to flex their creativity in applying for a design competition.

Bromley Council has launched a contest for people to come up with a concept design for a lightweight canopy over the outdoor stage at Beckenham Green, which is used year-round by the community for a variety of events.

The project will complement the £4.4million improvements to High Street, funded by the council and Transport for London, with the winning entry set to inform a brief to tender for the design and manufacture of the canopy.

The total project budget – including design fees, structural fees and electrical fees – is £35,000. The selected entry will be given £500.

Proposals will be judged by the Beckenham Town Centre Working Group, Kevin Munnelly – head of renewal at the council – and others.

Submissions must be received by midday on January 15. A full brief is available at the council’s website: bromley.gov.uk/info/200079/regeneration.
