A consultant will retire after 27 years of loyal service to the local community.

Dr Andrew Bamji, 63, is a consultant rheumatologist who practiced at BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital, Orpington.

Dr Bamji said: “It has truly been an amazing journey and looking back, it is a great pleasure to have witnessed the changes and investment made into BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and will miss the staff, fellow consultants and my patients.

“Healthcare is a selfless profession in which we place our patients at the centre of everything and the team at BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital are truly dedicated to that ideal.”

During his long running career he has treated more than 4,500 patients and is credited as being one of the first rheumatologists in the UK to use disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs which are now standard treatment in both the NHS and private sector.

BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital’s Executive Director Ruth Hoadley said: “Dr Bamji will be greatly missed by his patients and the staff here at BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital. He has been a true part of the team from the very beginning when the doors opened here.”
