Bromley College announce plans for new £4.5million sports centre

PUBLISHED: 15:50 26 July 2013 | UPDATED: 15:50 26 July 2013

A new £4.5million sports centre is to be built at Bromley College.

Set for the Bromley campus, in Rookery Lane, the development is set to open at the end of 2014 and will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the students and local residents.

A new sports hall will replace the current one, built in 1959, and new additions will include four badminton courts, a gym, a new lecture theatre and sport science labs.

These developments will allow the college to offer courses including sports therapy, sports massage, sport science, apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships in sport.

The new centre will be mainly funded by Bromley College, and partly by a government grant. Building work will commence in the autumn.

Sam Parrett, principal of the college, said: “We are pleased to secure funding for this new development.

“Our new sports centre will be a hugely valuable resource for our current and future students, and also for the local community who will be able to access the facilities in the evenings and weekends.

“Through offering a range of sports, activities, classes and fitness testing, this fabulous new resource will further improve the student experience at the College and form a dynamic part of the local community and our Bromley Campus.”
