Audiences shall go to the ball this Christmas as Cinderella comes to the Churchill Theatre for this year’s pantomime.
Taking on the role of Cinderella is Charlotte Haines.
When asked what she’s looking forward to, Charlotte said: “I have worked for Qdos (the producers of the pantomime) for six years now and have always played Snow White.
“This year, to play a different role is very exciting and creates new challenges. I think Cinderella is one of the most well-known stories, and I get to live out the dream of most young girls - of playing a princess.”
Speaking about how she got into acting, she said: “I always performed as a little girl.
“I made my family sit down and would put on shows for them. Then when I turned 12 there was an advertisement for Bugsy Malone for our local amateur dramatics theatre at The Kings Theatre, Portsmouth.
“It was mine and my Dad’s favourite film and he told me ‘you must go for it!’, so I did it and things continued from there.”
The theatre has announced that Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph will lead the cast of this year’s show in the role of Fairy Godmother, and Charlotte is excited to be working alongside her.
“This will be my second time working with Lesley,” she said.
“She is an absolute joy and so supportive.
“When I found out I would be performing with Lesley again, I went to see her in Young Frankenstein in the West End and met her for a coffee in her dressing room.
“I worked with Lesley at The Theatre Royal in Plymouth a couple of years ago. Last time she played my evil stepmother so it will be lovely to have her being nice to me on stage!”
When asked why she thinks people enjoy going to the pantomime, Charlotte said: “You have the magic for the kids, the adult jokes that the kids don’t understand and the comedy for everyone.
“It’s a nice way for families to come together at Christmas.”
Cinderella will be at the Churchill Theatre from December 1 - 30.
