Bromley bike project nominated for police award

Disowned bikes from Bromley Police’s property stores were repaired and restored to offer youngsters an alternative way to travel to and from school.
Project Schoolbike is one of 11 projects in contention for the 2012 Tilley Awards after it was launched last year to tackle problems on buses serving Charles Darwin Secondary School, in Biggin Hill.
Charles Darwin deputy head Rob Jones said: “Project Schoolbike has been brilliant. We have 30 pupils using the bikes every day which means 30 fewer pupils on public transport.”
