THE body of a missing pensioner who disappeared after buying his morning paper has been recovered from a lake.

Specialist officers were searching for Michael Mackay, 72, who was last seen by his newsagent near his home in Beckenham at around 9am on Tuesday.

His body was discovered by police in Kelsey Park on this afternoon (Thursday). Officers are treating the death as 'unexplained' and a post mortem is due in the next few days.

An operation was launched on Tuesday after Mr Mackay, who was known to frequent the Bromley, Croydon, Bexley, Camden and Kilburn areas, went missing 'uncharacteristically'.

Kelsey Park and Kelsey Park Grammar School were closed while the police used specialist equipment to search underwater at the popular lake.
