A BUDDING star has made it one step closer to fame after getting through to final round of a music competition.

Acoustic guitarist Sam Bleazard, 34, of Park Road, Beckenham, has secured a place in the Live & Unsigned Area Final, to be held in Aldershot, Hampshire on May 10.

The competition looks for talented acts to sign to a record label and hopefully propel them in to the music industry.

Father-of-one Mr Bleazard said: "It was very surreal when they told me I had made it to the final. I wasn't expecting to get through, I was amazed. It was like Stars in Their Eyes, a brilliant feeling like an outer body experience. I will get three minutes to wow the judges and they are looking for specific things such as musicianship, professionalism and ability to engage the crowd. You have to come out of the box quite quickly.

"My three-year-old daughter was there in the crowd jumping up and down which was lovely, I'm not sure if she knew what was going on or not."

Mr Bleazard, who describes his style as funk and soul, is now looking forward to the next stage of the competition.

The married civil servant said: "I just want to be prepared. The judges seemed to really like what I did last time. I have been playing gigs for years and it seems I am just starting to get a bit of recognition which is great."

Events director of Live & Unsigned said: "This year's standard has been higher than ever, we have seen some really serious acts that are demonstrating a real wealth of talent, experience and determination to crack the industry. The competition is really coming alive now and it is a real opportunity for the remaining acts to break through."

Kiddo360, a band from Wales, were the winners of Live and Unsigned 2008 and have since won the Vodafone award for best Live and Unsigned act alongside acts such as Kate Nash, The Ting Tings and Primal Scream.A BUDDING star has made it one step closer to fame after getting through to final round of a music competition.
