BLACKFRIARS underground station will be closed next year for more than two years.

The station will close from March 2, 2009 until late 2011, as part of Network Rail's Thameslink upgrade programme.

Work includes lengthening the platforms to allow for new longer trains and a new entrance to the complex on the south bank of the Thames.

Trains from Beckenham and Bromley South station will not terminate at Blackfriars for the duration of the works.

In the tube station, there will be step free access, an enlarged ticket hall and refurbished platforms.

Customers are advised to use nearby Temple and Mansion House stations.
