Binmen walk out at Bromley depot over dismissals

Bromley’s binmen staged a mass walkout last week after four colleagues were sacked for allegedly accepting a tip whilst removing extra rubbish.
The workers at Veolia Environmental Services, in Baths Road, vowed to see the four men reinstated and Unite have warned more than 120 workers may strike – disrupting waste collection.
Refuse workers refused to leave the depot in protest on Thursday of last week, but have since returned to work.
Onay Kasab, of Unite, said: “Our members have a very clear message to Veolia – reinstate the four or we will strike for as long as it takes to get the men their jobs back.”
A Veolia spokesman said no further action had been taken by employees and the company will consult with Unite.
