MOTORCYCLISTS are due to be allowed in bus lanes during an 18-month trial scheme.

London Mayor Boris Johnson announced that motorcyclists can drive in red route bus lanes from January 5 next year.

The experiment was one of the Mayor's manifesto pledges.

Mr Johnson said: "Londoners know that I am determined to make it easier for them to get from A to B in our great city.

"At the end of the trial period I will listen carefully to the views of all our road users and then make a decision about whether this should be a permanent arrangement."

Unauthorised use of a bus lane can result in a £120 fine.
