Some 31,500 people backed plans in official consultation
More than three quarters of people living near Biggin Hill are in favour of the airport extending its opening hours, according to the official consultation into the proposals.
Some 31,500 people backed the plans, out of 41,711 who responded to the consultation, which took place between January and March.
The airport says the plans will create 2,300 jobs and reduce noise by 50 per cent.
Managing director Will Curtis said: “This is a massive endorsement for the airport and we want to thank people for their support.”
The results are in line with those of the airport’s own consultation in 2014, in which 9,884 people said yes, 2,589 people answered yes with reservations and 2,525 people answered no when asked if they supported the proposed new opening hours. An independent poll by Populus the same month also found that 79 per cent of those questioned supported more flexible opening hours.
