A student has landed a dream job on a luxury 60 metre superyacht as part of a charity-run apprentice program.
Sam Taylor, 18, of Tangleberry Close, Bickley, recently completed phase one of the Yachting Cadetship, run by maritime training provider and youth charity UK Sailing Academy (UKSA).
“A year ago I was unsure of what career path to take following my A levels,” said Mr. Taylor. “But after attending a UKSA open day I just knew the superyacht life was for me.”
Earlier this month Mr Taylor embarked on a nine month journey though the Mediterranean Sea as professional deckhand on a Feadship superyacht, based in Majorca.
“I was on trial at first but have just been made permanent so I’m well pleased.”
The three-year apprenticeship includes a foundation degree in operational yacht science.
“The UKSA cadetship has given me an ideal opportunity to follow my dreams.
“I couldn’t be happier,” he added.
