A designer is calling for fellow artisans to join her in setting up creative group selling their wares at events in the borough.

Bickley based jewellery maker, Morgaine Alexandra, of The Avenue, Bickley, is hoping to bring together like-minded individuals once a month where they can sell their goods.

She worked for Burberry until February this year when she left to set up her business and says it is extremely difficult for fledgling designers to get established, especially those who have children.

The 30-year-old said: “Central London has ample outlets for new designers and businesses, markets, boutiques, but not everyone wants or has the time to travel into London, especially if they have kids. And the costs can be extortionate. We would like to offer an opportunity to local talent to showcase their work for the local community, where you can bring your children and spend the day shopping and chatting over a cup of tea.

“We know lots of people who are setting up online businesses so these once-a-month events will be a great place to promote that. Young designers leaving places like Ravensbourne College will be able to have stalls. Also, there are lots of young mums in the area who want designer goods who might not have the time to get into London.

“There is nothing like it at the moment- you get an amazing array if you go into town to the markets there but there is a bit of a shortage in Bromley. We will start off small and grow, hopefully more and more people will come and exhibit.”

The group currently consists of former Ravensbourne College student Ms Alexandra, an online wedding boutique, a vintage and antique seller, a children’s toy business, a tea shop owner and a freelance lifestyle photographer but they are looking for other creatives to join the team.

They have just set up a Facebook page with more information called ‘Sugar & Spice and all things Nice’ or contact

The first event will be on November 28 from 11am to 6pm at Club Langley, Hawsbrook Lane, Beckenham.
