A Beckenham woman has been nominated for an award celebrating the UK’s female talent.

Chayya Syal, an award winning broadcast journalist working across print, digital, broadcast, video and radio, received a nomination for the annual Rising Star Awards, supported by The Times, which aim to encourage organisations to consider how they strengthen their development of female staff.

Ms Syal currently works on a live news programme at the BBC, and is a Huffington Post blogger.

Thw 200-strong shortlist showcases women from across 20 categories representing different industries and professions.

Vanessa Valley, founder of WeAreTheCity, the award organisers, said: “We know there is an amazing amount of female talent across the UK and it gives us such pleasure to be able to shine a light on these women’s achievements through our awards.”

The overall top 100 winners will be announced on June 19, and winners will then be celebrated on July 12.
