Year 10 pupil Ryan Parsons aiming for £5,000 top prize
Public speaking is many people’s worst nightmare but not for Bromley’s Ryan Parsons.
Having already been selected as the borough’s regional champion in the Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge!, he has now been selected as a finalist in the 2015 grand final to be held at the Piccadilly Theatre on July 6.
The Harris Academy Beckenham student will be competing against 14 other young people for a chance to win £5,000 – a £2,000 bursary for the winner and £3,000 for improvements in the winner’s school.
Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge! is the biggest public speaking event of its kind in the world and is run the The Jack Petchey Foundation, which gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25.
Now in its ninth year, more than 18,000 Year 10 students are expected to compete in the challenge for more than £15,000 worth of prizes in this year’s final.
