A 12-year-old boy and a couple have been arrested in connection with a number of distraction burglaries across London.

Officers from Lewisham’s Serious Acquisitive Crime Unit arrested a 39-year-old man and 35-year-old woman, in Rectory Road, Beckenham on Tuesday at around 2.30pm.

Their arrests led to officers further arresting the 12-year-old in Swanley on Wednesday morning.

The incidents reported to police involve a man using a young child to distract elderly victims while their homes were ransacked.

A 91-year-old man was targeted in one incident, and was assaulted after answering the door to a young boy who said he needed to write a note for his aunt.

All three are currently in custody at a south-east London police station.
