They were part of the Rheinland-Pfalz Tag , an annual musical festival
The Beckenham Concert Band visited Germany to take part in the Rheinland-Pfalz Tag – an annual celebration of music and fun.
Over 120 organisations took part in the procession. The Beckenham Band were guests of the Musikverein Heimbach-Weis, a local band who had performed with them in a joint concert in Beckenham in 2012.
After a welcome from the mayor, the two bands set up on an outdoor stage in Neuwied – Bromley’s twin town.
A highlight was a joint performance of a piece written for solo bagpipes and band – Highland Cathedral.
A local man, who has a passion for playing the bagpipes, performed brilliantly. As soon as the concert was over, the two bands rushed off to the starting point for the big procession. Marching one behind the other, they took it in turns to play, some still with the piper.
It is hoped that the two bands will meet again, both in Germany and the UK, to continue to foster the friendship.
