A 33-year-old man has been jailed for two years after he was caught by officers burgling a Beckenham house.

John Webb, of Morland Road, Croydon denied the charge, but was found guilty of burglary and sentenced to two years imprisonment at Croydon Crown Court on April 4.

Officers were out on an anti-burglary patrols in Beckenham when they heard a house alarm sounding in Birkbeck Road.

As they approached the premises Webb ran out of the house and was chased by officers. He fled along tram tracks and on to Beckenham Road before he was caught in the communal area of a block of flats.
