Adventurer Bear Grylls and comedian David Walliams helicoptered in to meet 1,100 scouts and guides in Downe on Saturday.

The pair attended Campdowne, in Birdhouse Lane, where 10 to 18-year-olds have been camping since Thursday of last week - taking on activities such as zorbing, archery and kayaking.

Chief scout Bear is aiming to encourge more adults to volunteer for scouting.

He said: “It’s so important that more adults sign up to volunteer with us to allow even more young people to sign up too.”

David Walliams tried his hand at archery, hitting the bullseye on his first attempt. He joked: “I don’t know what all the fuss is about.”
