AN unemployed man has appeared in court charged with robbery.

Scott Ryan, 27, of Chesham Road, Penge, is accused of five counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery and three counts of possession of an offensive weapon.

He appeared at Woolwich Magistrates Court last Saturday and was remanded in custody. It is claimed that Ryan matches the description of a suspect who has committed a number of robberies in the Beckenham area. He was arrested after allegedly threatening a 39-year-old man with a knife at Barclays Bank on the corner of Beckenham Road and Croydon Road.
