FRIENDS of a 90-year-old former keep-fit teacher celebrated her birthday by holding a surprise party at her exercise class.

Ruby Matlock, of Durham Road, Bromley, gave up teaching five years ago but still attends keep-fit sessions at The Assembly Rooms, in Green Gates Road, West Wickham, where the party was held.

Friend-of-15-years Ann Clavering, 72, said: "Ruby is a very caring person who is extremely active. She still does everything for herself. For a 90-year-old she is quite extraordinary."

Apart from the keep-fit sessions, Mrs Matlock, a mother-of-three, grandmother-of-three and great-grandmother-of-two, enjoys spending time with her family across the country and making trips to West End musicals.
