Appeal follows two Penge arsons

Police are appealing for information after two suspected arsons in Penge over the weekend.

Officers and London Fire Brigade crews were called to a car park off Kenilworth Road, Penge just after 11pm on Friday.

A Fiat panel van that had recently been abandoned at the location was on fire.

On Saturday officers were called to Ladbrokes, High Street, Penge at around midnight, after a pile of rubbish underneath a fire exit at the rear of the property was alight.

Both incidents are being treated as arson.

PS Rob Goodwin, from the Penge and Cator Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area at the time of the incidents to come forward and help us track down the person responsible for these fires.

“We are currently looking at CCTV to see if it will help us identify the perpetrator.

“Substantial damage was caused to the rear of the building on Saturday and it is only pure luck that the blaze didn’t spread to nearby residential flats”.

Anyone with information can call the Penge and Cator Safer Neighbourhood Team on 020 8649 3541 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
