A POP icon made a surprise appearance on stage at the encore of a world premiere of his musical.

Neil Sedaka joined the cast on stage at The Churchill, Bromley, at the end of the opening night of his musical Laughter in the Rain.

The sell-out audience, last Thursday, were treated to a performance by the Amarillo singer singing and playing live on stage with the actor who plays him in the show, Wayne Smith.

The musical is based on the rise, fall and rise again of Sedaka following his glitzy career spanning six decades and dozens of hit singles.

The singer has become an icon of 20th century pop, having been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame for his hits including Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, Solitair and Laughter In The Rain.

Produced by The Churchill, Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield, the musical Laughter In The Rain is running at the Bromley theatre until this Saturday.
