Sprinter Adam Gemili has smashed his 200m personal best to progress through to the semi-finals at the World Championships, in Moscow, this morning.

The Blackheath and Bromley Harrier won his heat with ease, finishing in a time of 20.17s - which makes him the fifth fastest UK athlete of all time over 200m.

Speaking to the BBC after the race, Gemili said: “I think there is a lot more to come.

“I knew I was in good form and I just wanted to execute the race.”

He will now take on the dominant force on the track, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, as well as fellow British sprinter Delano Williams in the semi-finals this afternoon from 4.40pm.

Should he progress from there, Gemili will then head to the final at around 6.15pm this evening.
