From the classroom to the ballroom and now onto the stage, Strictly Come Dancing finalist Chelsee Healey is out to show she can do it all when she arrives at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on Tuesday.

She is part of the three-woman cast of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, and this tour is Chelsee’s first time treading the boards – and has come as quite a shock.

“It’s massively different from television because if you mess it up in front of a live audience, you don’t get another chance.

“I’m known for laughing fits during takes and it’s actually happened on stage during this tour, but I was laughing along with the audience so it was fine. In theatre you can adapt and enjoy yourself up on the stage, that’s one of the best parts.”

Known before her turn in Strictly as Janeece Bryant in BBC school drama Waterloo Road, the 24-year-old says the dancing competition moved her star up a couple of notches.

“People started to recognise me more in the street and things like that, which can be a little scary. But I don’t mind the stories in the papers – as long as they’re nice,” she admits.

Having never seen The Vagina Monologues before taking on her new role, just one rehearsal with co-stars Vicky Entwhistle and Clare Buckfield has meant Chelsee has felt the pressure.

The play deals with subjects such as sex, birth and the physical form of the body in a series of single speeches.

She said: “It’s been almost three weeks now and I still get really nervous before any show we do. This is all new to me and it’s a totally amazing production, it’s written really well and is really funny.”

The Vagina Monologues is at The Churchill Theatre on Tuesday from 7.45pm. Tickets priced £18-£20 are available at
